Soundwave came to a close this past weekend at the Olympic Park in Sydney, Australia – and it went out with a bang. The festival’s closing night featured metal acts such as Slipknot, Slash and Exodus – but it was Marilyn Manson’s appearance at Smashing Pumpkins’ set that stole the show.
Manson took the stage as the Pumpkins broke into their hit “Ava Adore” – and the crowd was beyond excited. He and frontman Billy Corgan traded off on vocals throughout the song, singing at each other most of the time and clearly having fun with it.
This collaboration is physical proof of what Manson recently told Esquire – that he and Billy Corgan never really had the “falling out” that has been rumored for quite some time. In the January interview, Manson explains what exactly the deal between the two was, and offers some fond memories of Corgan:
I ran into Billy [Corgan], and a lot of people think there was some kind of falling out. It was mostly that he wrote a strongly worded letter about how Rose McGowan would ruin my life and ruin my career if I stayed with her, which was good advice, and he wrote it as a letter, which is very polite. There is sort of a guy code that I abide by where he totally offered his advice, and he was genuinely just looking out for my best interests. I hadn’t seen him in 15 years. I had forgotten how close we were, having not seen him in so long. He’s the one who taught me how to play guitar, so if it sucks or it’s good, it’s his fault.
Whether they’d been feuding or not, there was no evidence of any bad blood on stage in Australia this weekend. You can view a fan shot video of the performance below:
