Last night, ex-Skid Row singer Sebastian Bach posted a picture on Facebook of him with Judas Priest guitarist Glenn Tipton and Rita Haney (longtime girlfriend of Dimebag Darrel) hanging out at the Rainbow Bar and Grill in LA. Along with the picture, Bach included the following caption:
“Glenn Tipton of Judas Priest, Rita @dimebagzhag & me at the Rainbow last night. Glenn & i talked about me almost being the singer of Judas Priest he told me it almost happened! Wow . What a great guy.”
Wait, Sebastian Bach was almost in Judas Priest? We’re assuming Bach is implying that he was supposedly in the running to replace singer Rob Halford when he first left the group in 1991. The job, though, went to singer Tim “Ripper” Owens in 1996. Around the same time that Owen’s joined the band, Bach was ousted by Skid Row over a dispute regarding opening for KISS. So time wise, it’s not too far of a stretch that the remaining Priest members considered Bach.
While our view of Bach today is a bit skewered as of late, Bach is still nonetheless a strong metal singer. And in the 90’s, Bach was in his prime. However, would Bach have been a suitable replacement for Halford? Owens did a solid job, but even he had a hard time replacing the Metal God.
Well you can somewhat judge for yourself. Blabbermouth found video of Skid Row performing Priest’s “Delivering The Goods” with Halford himself in 1992. That’s the same year that Skid Row came out with the B-Side Ourselves EP, which featured a cover of the song. You can watch the video below. Nothing against Bach (or even Owens for that matter), but it’s safe to say that everyone is happy that Halford returned to Priest in 2004.
