Brazilian metal outfit Eminence have unleashed their latest effort, Dark Echoes, last month, which was produced by Tue Madsen (Behemoth, Suicide Silence, Meshuggah). We caught up with guitarist Alan Wallace as he shared five things he learned about recording the album during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The first thing I learned during the quarantine to record an album was that time is our friend! I concentrated better to make the recordings without having to worry about the studio clock.

The second thing I learned during the pandemic was having to do remote pre-production with the band members. We talked 6 to 7 times a day sending parts of the songs. At first it was difficult but then it became very easy. Now I don’t know if I can go back to conventional composing mode to write new songs.

The third thing I learned is that we don’t need a lot to record at home. A good interface with good plugins and a little knowledge makes the difference. We don’t need to be the best producer, but over time we get to know our limitations and new challenges.

The fourth thing I learned was that even more at a distance the band became more united. The pandemic has shown who is really at your side and who is strong enough to continue working.

I learned that we have to stay focused, believe in ourselves and try to make the best pre-production and recording possible. You discover that you are capable of doing several things. Just believe in yourself.
