The Norwegian word “Avvik” translates to “anomaly” or “deviation” in English and it’s only too fitting that Norwegian black metal legends Taake would choose this word as the title to their newest CD that releases this July. Taake has always chartered their own course and you either get it or you don’t.
Avvik is a compilation of tracks that were on the most recently released series of 10 inch records that were shared with Whoredom Rife, Deathcult and Helheim. All of these tracks from Taake have been remixed and remastered for this CD release. And let me tell you, after my first listen, I can tell you that Herbrand Larsen (ex-Enslaved) and Bjornar E. Nilsen (Vulture Industries) did quite the job on this one. Even if you already own all the 10 inches, you’ll most certainly want this CD as well.
An additional track that this CD features is an acoustic version of the black metal classic “Nattestid ser Porten vid I” as performed by Taake banjoist/guitarist Gjermund (also of Orkan).
But wait! There’s another surprise in store with none other than Dr. Mikannibal of Sigh performing on saxophone to the Sisters of Mercy “Heartland” cover.
Track listing for “Avvik” is as follows:
01) Ubeseiret
02) Heartland
03. Nattestid ser Porten vid I
04) Slagmark
05) Ravnajuv
06) Brotne Bein og Mannefall
07) Ein Baat i Foss
“Avvik” is now available to pre-order here.
Of course, we’ll have a review of this CD here at Metal Insider shortly.
