Let’s talk Greta Van Fleet a minute. They sound just like Zeppelin. Some people (over 80,000 in fact) love them because of this. Others hate them because of this. Others hate them because of their rapid rise to fame. Some, like the writers at
Pitchfork, hate them so much that they took the time took the time to write a short “review” that boils down to making fun of the band’s clothing and using words like “retro-futurism” and “mollycoddled”. Me? I think they’re fine. They have talent and I don’t think wearing their influences on their sleeves negates that. Hell, I’d like to see the band transition to doing something completely bonkers on their next album, completely unlike Zep. That would really get me interested. Whether or not the band can keep the hype up in the future remains to be seen, but for now I say just let people like them. It’s a straight up rock band topping the charts in 2018 and I think that’s kinda cool.
