Last week, Metallica’s Hardwired… To Self Destruct had a monster week, selling 81,000 copies. It’s return to the upper echelon of the chart was due to the fact that anyone that bought a ticket for their forthcoming WorldWired tour got a copy of the album as well. The sales counted once those that bought tickets got the tickets, and last week turns out to have been an even bigger one for concertgoers. Hardwired… spends a second week at #2, selling 102,000 copies, which is it’s second-biggest week of sales behind the debut week, when it sold 291,000 copies.
In fact, the album sold 100,000 copies, not counting streaming and rt, which is more actual copies than Ed Sheeran, who holds at #1 sold, which was 87,000. His monstrous streaming numbers and track-equivalent albums gives him 187,000 equivalent albums. Regardless, for any band to sell 102,000 copies in a week is impressive, and for Metallica to do it four months after their album was released, improving on the last week’s numbers, means a lot of people are buying Metallica tickets.
