Last week, GQ published an article stating the Art of Anarchy/Creed frontman Scott Stapp was visited by the late Scott Weiland’s ghost. Alternative Nation noticed something off about this story, thinking it was more of an excuse to take shots at Stapp for outdated Creed jokes. The site recently interviewed Stapp and moved forward to 2017 discussing Art of Anarchy’s new album The Madness. Only a preview of the interview is available, and this portion where Stapp was asked if Weiland’s “ghost” was more of a metaphysical warning than an actual one is of note: .
Stapp clarified:
“Scott Weiland didn’t literally speak to me. What I was referring to there was how being on this tour bus that he died in created an epiphany within me. The way I carried on my life at certain times could have put me in that same position. In no way, shape or form, as you interpreted, did Scott Weiland speak to me. Those were the writer’s words, not mine.
The writer for that article was, in my opinion, way out of line, and wrote an article just to assassinate me personally. He took any window of opportunity to take anything I said out of context.”
This isn’t the first time when Stapp’s words were misinterpreted. Last year many were under the impression that Stapp was replacing Weiland for Stone Temple Pilots. STP responded to this rumor with “Despite recent comments, Scott Stapp is not, nor has he ever been considered as the singer for STP.”
