Sure, it’s not technically just King Diamond, he’d be sharing the award with Volbeat, another Danish act that borrowed his trademark falsetto for “Room 24,” a song off their album Outlaw Gentlemen and Shady Ladies. And while we might not agree on just what constitutes metal, at least we can all agree that at least all five bands nominated for “Best Metal Performance” define a nice cross-section of genres. The band that started metal (that’d be Sabbath), a Big 4 band (Anthrax), the biggest progressive metal band 20 years running (Dream Theater), a band at the forefront of metalcore (Killswitch Engage) and “Room 24.”
