It seems like only yesterday that we named Immortal’s “Grim and Frostbitten Kingdoms” our #1 song about snow (it was actually Monday). Not only because of the title, but also because of the meme that it’s video and the video for “Call of the Wintermoon” spawned. Those two videos, hastily filmed, featured the band in their corpsepainted best wandering around forests. At any rate, the folklore behind the videos was enough to inspire it’s own cartoon, Sons of Northern Darkness.

In the cartoon, Abboth and Demonaz head into the woods, but are never heard from again. King Diamond also makes a cameo. Here’s the description from the video:

“In the fall of 1995, Black Metal band, Immortal, set out to make a string of music videos for their upcoming album. With little to no-budget, they walked into the woods outside their hometown of Bergen, Norway, never to be seen again. This is their story.”

If you’re familiar with the lore of the videos (and the videos themselves), then you’ll love this.  Even if you’re not, the line “Lunch is for pussies. And Metallica” should get you going. Creators Nancy Pagan Animation are the same guys that did the “He Man Sings Mercyful Fate” video last year, so it’s safe to say the guys are obsessed with King Diamond.
