Metallica frontman James Hetfield has officially made his first public appearance since entering rehab last night (30th). The special event featured 10 of his classic custom cars at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, CA, for the Reclaimed Rust: The James Hetfield Collection exhibit. During the event, Hetfield auctioned two of his ESP guitars. Bassist Robert Trujillo, former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony, and Alice In Chains guitarist/vocalist Jerry Cantrell were also in attendance last night. Check out some of the car models featured in the exhibit here.
Seeing Hetfield’s return to the public eye is an emotional moment for Metallica fans. Many have been concerned about the singer/guitarist’s condition since the news broke on September 27th, 2019, the anniversary of Cliff Burton’s death. It has been a mysterious ride since as there hasn’t been much of an update on his condition. However, fans remained hopeful after seeing Metallica shows booked for 2020, including headlining five of the Danny Wimmer Presents festivals. Looking over the footage and photos found all over social media, you will notice a noticeable change since we last saw him in September during S&M 2 in San Francisco. Whether it was the haircut, his facial hair, or the result of his treatment, Hetfield looked healthier, stronger, and to some extent, more engaged. We are looking forward to seeing this James return to the stage. Today is an excellent day for Metallica fans. Welcome back, James! YEAH!
