James Hetfield (and Metallica in general, for that matter) is no stranger to performing the odd cover acoustically for special occasions. During last night’s annual Acoustic-4-A-Cure benefit in San Francisco, though, Papa Het treated fans to a stripped down version of “Motorbreath”.
Ok, so this isn’t the first time we’ve heard Metallica attempt an acoustic version of a Kill ‘Em All classic (they’ve done “The Four Horsemen” acoustically numerous times). That doesn’t make hearing the normally fast paced “Motorbreath” sound more like the Eagles’ “Hotel California” any less unusual. And surprisingly, it works pretty well.
Check out fan filmed footage of Hetfield’s acoustical performance of “Motorbreath” from last night (during which he also performed “The Unforgiven” and a cover of Screamin’ Jay Hawkins’ “I Put a Spell on You”) below.
