Back in mid-2014, Wintersun expressed the urge to create a crowdfunding campaign for their nonexistent album Time II. Wintersun mastermind Jari Mäenpää once confessed:
“…But the problem is this. I have a record deal with Nuclear Blast. If I would do a Kickstarter with a downloadable album for example, they would come with lawyers and take % share (more than half) away from the money that is your money meant for the Wintersun studio and the album production. “
We aren’t sure what happened since, but it seems a deal was made and Wintersun launched an IndieGoGo campaign roughly 24 hours ago. The campaign is for their third studio album The Forest Seasons out later this year via Nuclear Blast and they’ve already reached about 90% of their goal.
The band first announced on their Facebook:
“We welcome you to change the future of Wintersun and the Wintersun fans for the better! We are doing this crowdfunding campaign by working directly with you guys to take Wintersun together to the next level. We are offering you an amazing crowdfunding package called the FOREST PACKAGE, which has a lot of epic Wintersun content including our 3rd full length album THE FOREST SEASONS.

A few hours later, the band wrote again stating their gratitude:

The campaign includes an eleven-minute video explaining, in excessive detail, why you should contribute € 50 Euro for the Wintersun Forest Package, which, it should be noted, doesn’t even include a physical copy of the album.
