New Jersey hard rockers Who on Earth have teamed up with Metal Insider to premiere a video for their latest single, “Yesterday’s Future.” The track is taken from their newly released EP, Smoke & Mirrors.
The band comments:
“This song takes you on a journey through life, from birth to old age and hopefully, to a mindset of wisdom and clarity. To get there, we must pass through various growth stages that include learning life’s lessons, often the hard way. But there is a cadence to it all and a spirit that guides us even when we don’t know it!” They continue, “If a song takes you for a great ride with twists and turns and tells a great story, then who cares how long it is. I mean sometimes 3 minutes ain’t enough.”
On the video, the group explains:
“When we sat down to lay out the sequencing for the video, which our buddy Alien AL Overlord absolutely knocked out of the park (again!), we immediately thought that telling the story through the lens of Native American culture was going to be most impactful. Their respect for Earth, the spiritual fabric woven through their daily lives, and the knowledge of true human nature that the Native Americans possessed made it the perfect choice.”
On the inspiration for the song, bassist Pete Rizzi states:
“Iron Maiden is a huge, huge influence. Steve Harris was THE inspiration to pick up the bass at 15. Everyone asks me, ‘Why don’t you cover a Maiden song?’ I wanted to go a step further. I tried to lean into that influence and write a song in the style of Maiden, which for me was very natural. And I wanted the song to have plenty of room for the Smith / Murray-like guitar harmonies that are such a signature to the Maiden sound. Bruce (may he RIP) and Johnny did such an amazing job! Our producer, Mike Orlando, really helped us with this one and helped us make it truly epic!”
Vocalist Coosh adds:
“Look within and listen to the waves your heart wishes to ride. Have faith in yourself, even if the road is rarely traveled. Life should be your unique adventure, not a straight line from beginning to end.”
The EP follows the tragic passing of the band’s lead guitarist, Bruce Gatewood, who died suddenly of a heart attack in July shortly after completing the new recordings. His influence remains essential to the release.

The band expressed:
“Bruce will always live on in our hearts, and his contributions will be heard for many years to come. We’ve vowed to honor him by getting this music out to the world and keeping his memory alive.”
Smoke & Mirrors was produced, mixed, engineered, and mastered by Mike Orlando (Adrenaline Mob, Category 7) at Sonic Stomp Studios in New York. The cover artwork was created by Ken Adams (Lamb of God).
On the release of the EP, the band stated:
“We plan on releasing new music throughout the year, and ‘Smoke & Mirrors’ is part one. We can’t wait for people to hear how the band has grown from ‘Blame’ and how layered our songwriting and musicianship have become.
We are very proud of ‘Smoke & Mirrors’. It speaks to the deceptive nature of corporations (Dawgz, Voodoo), shitty people (Trash Talker) and social media, bastardized news reporting (Lobotomy). What you see is, unfortunately, rarely the truth. ‘Yesterday’s Future’ is our epic song, 6 minutes in length. It’s our Hallowed Be Thy Name and you can certainly hear the Iron Maiden influences coming through!”
