Meshuggah’s headlining tour just started on Monday, but it began out with vocalist Jens Kidman battling the flu. While he was able to make it through the set on Monday, Lenkman had to sit out the Atlanta show last night. Since the band is so rhythmically-oriented, Meshuggah are perhaps the only band where playing an instrumental set wasn’t too much of a detriment (and that’s not taking away from Kidman).
Also, Intronaut frontman Sacha Dunable was able to take over vocal duties for “New Millennium Cyanide Christ,” which you can see in the video above. Meshuggah’s statement from their Facebook page is below, with the band later adding “You have our deepest gratitude. You helped us turn a really shitty situation into an unbelievable night for us. YOU are Meshuggah. Much Love!!!”
Jens is down with the flu. And this flu means business. He has been forbidden to even speak. He’s mute for now. WE WILL PLAY ANYWAY. So memorize the lyrics and bring your very best growl Atlanta. You will all be Jens tonight!! Lets make this happen! We hope he’s back tomorrow,or it’ll be vocal-duties Charlotte!
