Last month, we discovered that former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted has been keeping himself busy with his stoner punk/metal band Papa Wheelie. The band (which Newsted sings and plays guitar in) has been playing a handful of shows in California. And during one gig at Road House Studios in Walnut Creek, California this past Saturday (November 12), the trio pulled out some interesting cover choices. You can watch video of Papa Wheelie covering Van Halen’s “D.O.A.” and Motorhead’s “We Are The Road Crew” above.
But Newsted isn’t the only bassist who use to be in a big metal/ hard rock band that’s been working on a new project as of late. Paul D’Amour, the original bassist of Tool, will be releasing the debut full length album of his group Feersum Ennjin. The self-titled album, which will be released on November 22, also features a guest appearance from D’Amour’s former Tool band mate Danny Carey. This marks the first time the two have recorded together since the bassist split Tool in 1995. You can listen to the song “The Fourth,” featuring Carey, right now at RevolverMag.com.
