The best thing about the new Motörhead song, “Thunder & Lightning” is that it sounds like the old Motörhead song. Not one in particular, all of them. Since 1977, the Lemmy Kilmister-fronted band has put out a blend of punk, blues and good old fashioned rock and roll, and they’ve had the same lineup for the past 20 years. However, their sound really hasn’t changed much since the first note they played as a band. Which brings us to “Thunder & Lightning,” the first taste of Bad Magic. This is pure Motörhead at it’s headiest, and if it lacks in originality, that’s not what you’re listening to Motörhead for. You want to listen to a song that makes you feel like the Jack Daniels-slugging, cranked out of his mind singer, and even if he’s mellowed a little in his old age, you don’t get any sense of that from listening to this.
The song is streaming on Spotify now, and you can listen to it below. Bad Magic hits stores on August 28.
