Danish rocker Michael Poulsen, known for his role in Volbeat, is revisiting his death metal roots with the formation of Asinhell. Poulsen, alongside drummer Morten Toft Hansen, started jamming on old-school death metal riffs, resulting in their debut album, Impii Hora (Latin for “Ungodly Hour”), which is scheduled to arrive on September 29 via Metal Blade Records. Marc Grewe (Insidious Disease, ex-Morgoth) was recruited for vocals, Flemming C. Lund on lead guitar, and Volbeat producer Jacob Hansen. In case you missed it, the group has shared a lyric video for the song “Island of Dead Men.”
Poulsen commented:
“‘Desert of Doom’ was inspired by Bolt Thrower, Death, Entombed, and Motörhead. Bang your head ’til it doesn’t bang no more.”
Grewe added:
“I had known Michael quite a long time and he always mentioned that we should do a death metal project one day, but I never took him too seriously because he was so busy with Volbeat. Then he called for real and said, ‘Yeah, I want to do it now. Are you up for it?’ Immediately, I was like, ‘Yes, of course!'”
