Howard Jones joins Killswitch Engage on stage during Canadian festival

During Killswitch Engage’s July 8 appearance at the Festival d’été de Québec in Québec City, former frontman Howard Jones surprised fans by joining the band on stage. Footage of the performance filmed by a fan in attendance has surfaced online.

Current frontman Jesse Leach welcomed Jones to the stage just as the band was about to launch into single “The End of Heartache,” which Jones had recorded the original vocals for. The two proceeded to treat the song as a duet, taking turns singing lead with the other supporting him with vocal harmonies.

Jones had performed at the festival earlier in the day with his current band Light The Torch.

Killswitch Engage are set to release their upcoming eighth studio album Atonement on August 16. Jones will make a special appearance on the record on a song that Leach says he wrote with him in mind, stating:

“Now that I’ve hung with this guy a few times, it’s ‘crazy’ (pun intended) how similar we are. We are brothers in metal, anxiety, hardcore music, love of medicinal marijuana and fighting depression.”

Leach hopes the song, which he says is “about keeping hope in dark times and helping out those in need,” will “help continue to raise awareness for mental health and suicide prevention,” something both he and Jones are passionate about.

Festival d’été de Québec continues through July 14 with shows of all genres happening across Québec.

Killswitch Engage will be on a co-headlining tour of North America for the remainder of July and into August with Clutch and Cro-Mags JM in tow. In October and November, the band will head to Europe for another headlining tour.

Light The Torch released their debut album under the that moniker, Revival, in 2018. The band is slated to play a handful of headlining North American dates this month with Moon Tooth as direct support.
