Danish hardrock band Volbeat and bassist Anders Kjølholm have decided to part ways. Kjølholm has been their bassist since they started out in 2001, appearing on five studio albums, their last being Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies in 2013. Former Former Anthrax guitarist Rob Caggiano joined the band that same year.

Said vocalist / guitarist Michael Poulsen and drummer Jon Larsen on the official Volbeat site:

“Anders (Kjølholm) has been a loyal friend and bandmate since 2001. We’ve toured most parts of the world and shared experiences that only few bands get to do. We’re very thankful for this and wish Anders all the best in the future.”

A line-up change this soon after Volbeat announced a handful of 2016 tour dates in October is peculiar, but leaves plenty of time to search for a replacement. In an interview with 99.7 The Blitz back in May Poulsen said they’d be back in the studio this month, which makes Volbeat (at least) the second band this year to part with a long-time bassist as they’re starting on a new record; earlier this year Bullet for My Valentine parted ways with Jason James soon after announcing their return to the studio.
