And so our top 5 continues to be proven wrong. Megadeth has just confirmed another band that will appear at this year’s Gigantour: Newsted, the new solo project of ex-Metallica bassist Jason Newsted.
“Massive news! Metallica fans get ready! Jason Newsted come on down. Newsted is the next contestant on Gigantour 2013. Tear it up!!!, “ Megadeth teased via a Facebook post. Newsted himself also confirmed the news via Facebook, saying “HEY NEWSTED METALHEADS!!! I am so excited to announce that NEWSTED will be joining Megadeth this summer on Gigantour 2013!!! More details coming later this week. Can’t wait to crush it this summer!!!” This comes shortly after Hellyeah, David Draiman’s Device, and Death Division were confirmed for the touring festival. Meanwhile, it remains to be seen whether Black Label Society will change from rumored to confirmed.
Dave Mustaine promised that each group slated for this year’s Gigantour were “new bands comprised of a person who was a major celebrity from a really large band that went on to do something new.” However, Newsted’s inclusion certainly makes for interesting chit chat, for now Gigantour 2013 boasts TWO former Metallica members. Can we expect Mustaine and Newsted to do a Metallica jam one night on the tour? Well, let’s not get our hopes up too high. Either way, though, this will be great exposure for the bassist’s solo effort (which has been touring as of late in support of its Metal EP and forthcoming full-length debut).
