Hailing from Tampa, Florida, Cold Steel stepped into the spotlight with their ferocious debut album, Discipline & Punish, out November 7, 2025, via Spinefarm Records. Blending hardcore and thrash elements, the record was produced by Arthur Rizk (Power Trip, Blood Incantation) and features pre-production input from Trivium’s Matt Heafy. To mark its release, the band teamed up with Metal Insider to share the five artists who helped shape their sound.

01) Slayer

Their live performances, raw energy, and intensity inspire how we represent ourselves on stage.

 02) Metallica

From Lars’ 4 on the floor signature, to James’s bludgeoning downpicking riffs, Metallica is pretty much the blueprint for Cold Steel.

 03) Anthrax

The speed and verocity, as well as the hardcore-inspired grooves in Anthrax, are what inspire us to take our music to another level.

 04) Slipknot

Slipknot is pretty much the reason we use drop tuning. Their grooves, fast chromatic riffs, and visceral live shows are what drive us to turn it up a notch, each record.

 05) Gojira

Gojira’s unique writing structure in their music helped influence us to bring more variety and identity in the riffs and cadences we made within our own music.
