metallica colbertMetallica has been making the rounds in support of their 3D IMAX film Through The Never, appearing everywhere from The Howard Stern Show to even Yankee Stadium. And last night, Metallica made a rare TV appearance on Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report.

In addition to performing “For Whom The Bell Tolls” on air, the band also sat down with Stephen Colbert himself. Amongst the topics Colbert addressed were what Through The Never actually means (and why not just call it Next To The Always), his love for St. Anger (the cover, not the album which he admits to never hearing), and whether James Hetfield can still keep his anger up. Another highlight of the night was seeing Father Jim Martin (editor-at-large of American Magazine who recently interviewed Pope Francis) introduce Metallica’s performance of “For Whom The Bells Toll.”

You can watch Metallica’s interview with Colbert, as well as performances of “For Whom The Bell Tolls” and “Master Of Puppets” (filmed as a web exclusive) below.
