Brooklyn sludge metal group Hull have been making a big splash with their sophomore album Beyond the Lightless Sky, which came out this past October via The End Records. However, the last place you’d expect to see Hull is on TLC’s Cake Boss: The Next Great Baker.

Yet that’s exactly where you’ll find them in next week’s episode, as Hull recently filmed a performance of the reality cooking competition show. Guitarist Nick Palmirotto had the following to say about the band’s recent TV appearance:

“One day we received this email from a production manager from the TV show, The Next Great Baker, a Cake Boss spin off, asking us if we would like to perform on the show. It was during the time that the Big Four were in town, and Megadeth were originally asked to perform for Mauro’s Birthday (Mauro is the Cake Boss‘ right-hand man and brother-in-law), as he was always a big metal head back in the day, but Megadeth couldn’t do it for some reason. Hull was mentioned at a board meeting, and low and behold, they contacted us. We showed up in Hoboken on a rainy afternoon to a huge production. They had us set up and perform on top of two box trucks while the contestants displayed their best attempts at metal themed birthday cakes. It was truly a one of a kind experience, and we are very much looking forward to Episode 8, ‘Headbanging Bakers,’ on January 16th.”

Though it’s a little unclear as to how producers went from Megadeth to Hull, it’s awesome that a sludge metal band is getting such exposure in an unlikely medium. Hull’s performance on Cake Boss: The Next Great Baker will air on TLC this coming Monday, January 16, at 9pm.
