Heavy Montreal, or Heavy MTL, has had some pretty stellar lineups in the past, and if the latest rumor turns out to be true, this year will be one of the biggest yet. The lineup won’t be announced until Monday March 3 (as teased in the video below), but it looks like Metallica may or may not be headlining. The band hasn’t played Montréal since 2009’s tour for Death Magnetic, so it’s not unreasonable to think that a return is long overdue. If the band follows the same route as their European festival shows in terms of setlist, we may see a lot of classic material as well as some new stuff being played. Plus, the festival is big enough to welcome the likes of Metallica considering the likes of Megadeth, Slipknot, and Iron Maiden have headlined in the past. We’ll know more once we get the full lineup in a few days.
