Los Angeles is getting all the good secret shows lately. Specifically, the Whisky A Go Go. On April Fool’s Day, Guns N’ Roses chose to reunite there. Last night was the live debut of Prophets of Rage, which consists of core Rage Against the Machine members Tom Morello, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk along with Public Enemy’s Chuck D DJ Lord and Cypress Hill’s B Real. A few weeks ago, the group cryptically announced their existence, and it was made official yesterday with the announcement of last night’s show, which instantly sold out. Their debut performance included two new songs, one of which is called “The Party’s Over,” but mostly consisted of Rage Against the Machine songs with a few Public Enemy and Cypress Hill songs sprinkled in.
Billboard reports that before ending with “Killing in the Name,” Chuck D said that there was always a place for original RATM singer Zack de la Rocha in the group. That suggests that they’d approached the singer. We’ll find out what the collective are up to after last night’s show soon enough, however. Another countdown on their website suggests an update will be coming on Friday (3), but the band already announced that they would be playing the Hollywood Palladium on Friday as well. Until then, check out some clips from the show
