New details have emerged about the motorcycle crash that killed former Mastodon guitarist Brent Hinds on August 20, 2025 in Atlanta, GA. According to an Atlanta Police Department incident report, Hinds was riding his Harley-Davidson late that evening when an SUV struck him while turning left at the intersection of Memorial Drive SE and Boulevard SE.

Responding officers found Hinds unresponsive around 11:35 p.m.; he was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. The driver of the SUV remained at the scene, telling investigators she was “positive the light was green,” though one witness claimed it was red at the time. Witnesses also reported Hinds was “driving fast” before the collision.

A 911 caller described seeing Hinds thrown into the air and spinning upon impact. Police confirmed he had visible head, arm, and torso injuries before being transported. An official obituary has announced that a “celebration of life” for Hinds will be held in Atlanta at a later date.
