Today, Heart released the title track of their forthcoming album, Beautiful Broken, via Rolling Stone. What makes it worthy of being written about here is that the upbeat, riffy rock song, originally released as a bonus track on the band’s 2012 album, features Metallica’s James Hetfield on background and occasional lead vocals. The 2:30 song is punchy enough that it could pass for ’90s Metallica, and hearing Hetfield trade lines with Ann Wilson is enough to remind us that a new Metallica album is coming. And while James, Kirk Hammett, Robert Trujillo and Lars Ulrich should have music for us as soon as this year, they’ve lent their talents to other bands in the past. With that in mind, here’s our top five list of tracks that Metallica members have appeared on.

5) Primus, “Eclectic Electric” (featuring James Hetfield)

Primus was expanding their sound by the time their sixth album, 1999’s Antipop, was released. Quite a few guests made appearances on the album, including Tom Waits, Tom Morello, and other people not named Tom, like Hetfield, who popped up on the 8 1/2 minute “Eclectic Electric.” Former Faith No More guitarist Jim Martin is also on the track. It’s an odd one, and it’s really hard to distinguish Hetfield’s guitars from Martin’s or LaLonde’s, so it’s kind of a head scratcher as to what he’s doing.
