Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine has issued an official statement on the band’s social media announcing bassist David Ellefson is no longer with the group.

Read the full statement below:

“We are informing our fans that David Ellefson is no longer playing with MEGADETH and that we are officially parting ways with him. We do not take this decision lightly. While we do not know every detail of what occurred, with an already strained relationship, what has already been revealed now is enough to make working together impossible moving forward. We look forward to seeing our fans on the road this summer, and we cannot wait to share our brand new music with the world. It is almost complete.”

The decision was made just a few weeks after videos and messages leaked of Ellefson’s involvement with a woman other than his wife. Ellefson has admitted his interactions with the woman but insists she’s of legal age and denies that he “groomed” her. The former bassist has also shared an alleged statement from the woman in question explaining that she’s always been a consenting adult throughout their exchanges. Ellefson has stepped away from social media during this time.
