The Deftones and Alice in Chains toured together back in 2010, on the Black Diamond Skye tour with Mastodon. Now they’re getting a little closer, as Deftones vocalist Chino Moreno, “spilled the beans,” in a video interview (below) on the special guest on their newest album.
Said Moreno about the guest guitarist,
“Jerry (Cantrell) is on the [new Deftones] album. I didn’t know if he wanted anybody to know or not. But I guess I’ve just spilled the beans. But he came in… There’s this one track that… in the demo stages of it, I was, like, ‘There’s this hole in there…'”
After sending in a demo, Cantrell came into the studio and recorded his part.
“It’s awesome. It’s like you’re hearing a Deftones song, but all of a sudden, a little bit of Alice in Chains seeps its way in there, and it’s kind of neat. I mean, me, as a fan, I was just sitting back and a little tear came out of my eye.”
The new album, their first since 2012’s Koi No Yokan, is tentatively scheduled to come out September 25th, with the band starting a 20-date US tour with Incubus starting in late July.
