It took a false start, but finally Opeth’s Pale Communion will be released next week (26). It’s a stunning progression of their Heritage material, both darker and slightly heavier, but still very ’70s prog-rocky. If you’re only a fan of My Arms, Your Hearse-era Opeth, you’re not going to like this much. However, the fans that have stuck around , and there are many of them, will be sucked in by the album. The band’s eleventh album is streaming now at Pitchfork Advance, and if you haven’t listened yet, whether you like Opeth’s latter-day direction or not, you owe it to yourself to check it out.
The album can be picked up for under $10 at Amazon.
