myrkurLast year’s mystery over who was behind mysterious black metal act Myrkur was solved relatively quickly after it was revealed that Amalie Brunn, a model and member of indie rock band Ex-Cops was in fact, the figurehead of the band. After signing to Relapse Records, Myrkur’s debut full-length, M, will be released on August 21. With all the talk of her identity now in the past, we can focus on the music, which is actually quite good. Produced by Kristoffer “Garm” Rygg (Ulver) and completed by members of Mayhem, Nidingr and a guest slot from Arch Enemy’s Christopher Amott, Myrkur’s debut full-length runs the gamut from orchestral and ethereal to guttural.

We’ve heard “Onde Born,” and “Haevnen,” and today NPR revealed the album-opening “Skøgen Skulle Dø.” It definitely keeps up the duality of really pretty and pretty grim.

M will be released on Friday, August 21. It can be pre-ordered here.
