OK, so not really. But My Morning Jacket’s first official single from their forthcoming album Circuital has just come out, and it’s called “Holdin’ On To Black Metal.” As far as the song itself, it’s not black metal. Or even metal at all. With its horn section and vocal harmonies, it sounds more like a mid-60s song unearthed from the Stax vault than anything to worship Odin to. But it’s not like My Morning Jacket are indie rock hipsters taking the piss out of metal, though. Last year the band did a reverent and completely awesome cover of Danzig’s “How The Gods Kill,” and while their albums range from pastoral and folky to experimental and genre-hopping, they’re a beast live and, in our opinion, one of the best rock bands out there. Check out “Holdin’ On To Black Metal” on their Facebook page, or buy the song online tomorrow. Circuital will be in stores on May 31.
