There are almost too many musicians on the forthcoming Metal Allegiance album. That’s why listening to it in song-sized chunks might make the most sense. Today, we get our first chance to do that, with “Can’t Kill the Devil.” Given that Chuck Billy and Alex Skolnick anchor the song, it sounds not unlike a Testament song, albeit one with Mike Portnoy drumming and Megadeth’s David Ellefson on bass. And given that Sepultura’s Andreas Kisser and Machine Head’s Phil Demmel are on it, it’s a little more, um, guitar-y than even a typical Testament song. In short, it’s exactly the thrashy, fun song that we might have expected from all the parties involved. And it’s the next best thing to a Testament song you’ll be hearing for a minute.
Metal Allegiance will be released on September 18th on Nuclear Blast. It can be pre-ordered here.
