Mastodon moved the crowd so much during a sold-out show in Brixton, London that they want it documented for eternity. The band are releasing an audio and video version of the February 2012 performance digitally December 10 on Warner Bros. Records via outlets such as iTunes and Amazon. The show was part of the band’s tour in support of their 2011 album Hunter and was the first time the outfit had played the London’s O2 Academy in Brixton. It’s somewhat interesting that the release will be digital-only, especially since the band have worked so hard on the presentation of their physical material, and this would be the first time they released a non-physical-only version of anything. Two years ago, the band released their first live album, Live at the Aragon, which included that band’s entire Crack the Skye album performed live .
Mastodon are currently working on new material, set to nail down studio time next month with the goal of recording new music by the end of the year. According to a news release from Warner Bros., details on a forthcoming album are expected to be released soon, but we wouldn’t be surprised by a Spring release.
