Guitarist Jerry Cantrell recently confirmed that Alice In Chains had completed recording a new album. And even though he said the new album would be due out next year, we figured we still had a while before we’d get to hear new material. As it turns out, we only have to wait roughly two weeks, as that’s when the reformed grunge pioneers will premiere a new song called “Hollow.”
Alice In Chains revealed late last night that they will be revealing a lyric from the new song via Instagram every day leading up to December 18, when “Hollow” will premiere online. Here’s Alice In Chains’ full announcement explaining the lead up:
“Presumably, you’re now following @aliceinchains on Instagram, so the first step is done. Every day for the next 10 days, a new lyrical phrase from our brand new song ‘Hollow’ will be posted at @aliceinchains on Instagram. We want you to create an image inspired by or featuring a single word or phrase from those lyrics. Next, share those photos on Instagram or Twitter tagging #HOLLOWAIC. On 12/18, visit www.aliceinchains.com/hollow to see your photos and other fan photos from around the world, then hear and become, ‘Hollow.’”
It’s really cool to hear how Alice In Chains is using Instagram to interact with their fans and as a way to build up buzz for the new song. However, we’re a little more excited about hearing a new Alice In Chains song in two weeks! We’ve noted numerous times how great of a surprise 2009’s Black Gives Way To Blue (the band’s first album in 14 years and since the death of Layne Staley) was. So our expectations are definitely high for the new album.
Keep an eye out on Alice In Chains’ Instagram account, as well as www.aliceinchains.com/hollow, over the next two weeks.
