Nate Newton might be the hardest working bassist in metal. Just being the longtime bassist in Converge is enough to keep him busy, but he’s also recording and touring with Doomriders, not to mention Old Man Gloom, who look to be releasing something this year. Now he can add another gig to his resume, as Max Cavalera (another multi-tasker) announced in an interview that Newton will be playing bass on the third Cavalera Conspiracy album. Newton would be replacing Fireball Ministry’s Johnny Chow in the band, playing alongside Max and Iggor Cavalera.

However, that doesn’t mean that he’s leaving Converge. In a statement on Converge’s Facebook page, he stated that he’s just psyched to play with the brothers Cavalera:

Hello friends! Just wanted to get some info to everyone since I’ve been getting so many messages…. Yes I am playing bass on the new Cavalera Conspiracy record. No…I am not going to leave Converge. I thought it would be fun to play with the guys who wrote some of my favorite metal records. That’s all…no big story here other than it’s pretty awesome when people who’s music you’ve admired for years ask you to be a part of it with them. I’m honored! – Nate

The band’s next album, due out this year, will be their first on Napalm Records.
