Opeth to release ‘Sorceress’ this fall

Posted by on June 15, 2016

nbaopethOpeth have had a fairly busy 2016 so far, working on new beer, publishing a book commemorating 25 years as a band, and now we find that they’ve been in the studio finishing up their 12th record, Sorceress, with producer Tom Dalgety (Killing Joke, Royal Blood). Coming off news that the band has signed with Nuclear Blast, Sorceress will be put out on the band’s new Moderbolaget Records imprint.

Nuclear Blast label owner Markus Staiger on the signing:

“I am honored that OPETH have joined the Nuclear Blast family. Mikael Åkerfeldt and his fellow bandmates have demonstrated time and time again that OPETH are a band that never release an album that sounds the same. You never know what their new music will sound like! Nuclear Blast has been following the musical journey of OPETH from the beginning with »Orchid« to landmark albums like »Still Life«, »Deliverance«, »Damnation« and »Blackwater Park«, right up to 2014’s »Pale Communion«! The band have become one of the most challenging artists in rock music today. It is not often that we get to work with musicians of their caliber and I’m thrilled to have such a unique genre-leader on the label. The future for OPETH and Nuclear Blast looks very bright.”

No word on the direction or sound of the new material as of yet, but I feel it’s a safe assumption that it will be a forward-thinking endeavor. Additionally, the band has detailed tour dates for the summer and fall. Dates can be found here, but here are the North American dates:

09/24 San Bernardino, CA @ Ozzfest
10/01 New York, NY @ Radio City Music Hall
10/04 Montreal, QC @ Metropolis
10/05 Toronto, ON @ Massey Hall
10/26 Vancouver, BC @ Orpheum
