Five years ago, Babymetal were a blip on the radar in America. The success of “Gimme Chocolat!” led to their first, self titled album selling significantly as an import even before it was widely available in the States. Since then, the metal/J-pop hybrid released Metal Resistance on RED, and have become enough of a phenomenon that Lady Gaga and the Red Hot Chili Peppers invited them to open for them and they sold out several tours of the United States. What’s next for the band? Their own label in the States, the creatively titled Babymetal Records.
Babymetal have partnered with 5B Artist Management and Records for the label, which will be distributed through Cooking Vinyl. Here’s what the statement says about the label:
“Babymetal has built a new partnership with 5B Artist Management and Records, a leading global music, events, and marketing firm, who manage well-known artists such as Slipknot and Megadeth. Additionally, with the powerful duo of 5B Artist Management and Records and Cooking Vinyl, who has handled the release of prestigious artists such as Marilyn Manson and The Prodigy, Babymetal is pleased to announce the establishment of a new record label Babymetal Records.”
While there’s no news on a third record yet, the band will have a graphic novel coming out in October. Apocrypha: The Legend of Babymetal, will be out on October 16th. Also unclear is whether the label will release music by other artists, or will just be focused on the band’s releases.
