Paws, Pets & Metal is Metal Insider’s ongoing column on bands with pets, discovering who watches them on the road, and more. Get to know more about these metal furbabies. We caught up with Sandveiss as their pets enjoy listening to artists including, Job For A Cowboy and Alestorm.
Tell us more about your pet(s) and their names?
Three members of Sandveiss have pets in their lives. Dominic (on drums) has a very grumpy 11-year-old cat named Toutou and a one-and-a-half-year-old husky-Labrador mix named Luffy. Luc, our mighty frontman, has a golden cat named Pio, as a tribute to the one and only C-3PO. Max, our bassist, has a 25-pound ginger cat called Tom. It’s funny because his cat has very ‘dog-like’ behavior. He talks a lot and follows him everywhere in the apartment.
Have you ever taken your pet on tour?
Unfortunately, this opportunity has not yet arisen. It would be a dream come true to have our pet buddies with us on the road, but for now, we only have space for our gear and our big butts in the vehicle. Otherwise, we often see them when we’re having virtual meetings. The closest we’ve come to bringing them with us is when we find all their fur on our gig bags or clothes hahaha.
Who looks after your pet while on the road?
Our ladies and kids take great care of our pets during our shows. When we’re lucky, we get videos or photos to help us not miss them too much (the pets, not the ladies and kids, hehe).
What’s your pet’s favorite song or album?
Dom’s cat, Toutou, would probably listen to the intro of ‘Entombment of a Machine’ by Job For A Cowboy on repeat while his dog Luffy would obviously listen to any Alestorm album since he’s named after the greatest pirate of all time. Tom’s favorite album is definitely ‘(watch my move)’ by Kurt Vile. It’s the perfect vibe for him to fall asleep to, with all the lengthy tracks on the album.
How did you introduce your pet to metal?
From the moment they were adopted, they were introduced to metal music, as that was the genre playing in the car when we first brought them to their new home.
What animal charity means most to you?
For Dom, any foundation or shelter related to dogs is close to his heart, as he has had dogs all his life and particularly adores the species. He adopted Luffy from a shelter called La Passion de Rubie, which passionately and generously gives a second chance to many newborn puppies from northern Quebec. For Max, the SPA is a rescue center that means a lot to him. His cat was rescued by the SPA when he was a kitten. They also give the opportunity to anyone who wants to walk dogs during the rescue center’s opening hours. They’re essential to the lives of domestic animals in Quebec City.
