Until now, arguably the best thing about Clear Channel’s online radio service IHeartRadio was that it was a good way to listen to your favorite hometown terrestrial radio station if you moved out of the market (or wanted to monitor another station across the country for some reason). Now that’s changed with the addition of their new all-metal channel, Full Metal Jackie. An outgrowth of Jackie Kajzer’s two-hour syndicated metal radio show of the same name, the channel will also broadcast hershow on Mondays at 7pm ESTand Thursday at 3pm EST. Kajzer is programming the channel, which will feature interviews she’s done over the years with artists, as well as artist-created takeovers. There’s additional programming in the works for the channel
“I was very excited to create this channel,” said Kajzer. “I’ve been hosting my two-hour show for over six years with Envision Networks and listeners have always said they wanted a longer show, or other places to listen to it during the week. This is such an important genre with a dedicated following, so it’s great that iHeartRadio believes in it enough to give us a 24/7 channel!”
Now if you have a smartphone, you have a way to listen to metal for free whenever you want. It’s encouraging to see Clear Channel show some support to the genre on a digital platform, especially considering how few of their stations feature original metal programming. The half hour or so we heard road testing the channel while writing this included Mastodon, Whitechapel, Cavalera Conspiracy, Dream Theater, A Pale Horse Named Death and Firewind – a solid mix of metal. You can listen online here, or download the app for your smartphone and listen online there. There will be a launch party for the station this Saturday at the kickoff of the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival in San Berdardino.
