This fall, Sirius XM will be re-launching “Mandatory Metallica,” the satellite radio station’s 24/7 Metallica channel, from September 13 and October 6. To commemorate this, and because their film, Metallica: Through the Never will be out the following week, Metallica will be playing a special show in NYC.
Metallica will be performing at the famous Apollo Theater in Harlem on September 21. Sirius XM subscribers and Met Club members will soon have opportunities to win tickets for the show. For those who won’t be in the New York area, the entire show will be streamed live on-air. No word on whether Metallica will continue the Showtime At The Apollo tradition of having the Sandman come out to remove them from stage following “Enter Sandman.”
The only downside to this entire thing is that Mandatory Metallica will be hosted on Liquid Metal’s channel, meaning that no new metal will be heard on the station for almost an entire month (you’ll still be able to hear Liquid Metal online). After October 6, “Mandatory Metallica” will move online until next Summer. So essentially, you won’t be able to complain about not hearing enough Metallica on SiriusXM.
