Metal Insider is sad to hear about the passing of Katherine Ludwig, former editor of Metal Maniacs. She’d been suffering from non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, and a crowdfunding site had been set up to help her battle the disease. Earlier today, the following was posted on her Facebook page:
Dear Friends of Katherine, we want to share that K passed today a little after 1pm at Cayuga Medical Center. She passed very quickly and peacefully, surrounded by family and friends. She would want you all to know how very much she valued your love, friendship and support.
As recently as two weeks ago, she’d been on her Facebook page, joking about the Biohazard symbol on one of her chemotherapy drugs, and posting positive thoughts on Christmas Day. As the editor of Metal Maniacs, she turned a lot of people on to metal that wasn’t mainstream at a time when there weren’t a ton of places to find out about it. And long before blogs let anyone write anything, she gave voice to her personal platforms in the pages of the magazine, including vegetarianism and animal rights. She leaves behind a teenage son. Our thoughts are with her family and the many friends she impacted directly and indirectly.
