Fashion. It’s ridiculous. Actually, the clothes you wear are part of your identity, and that’s just fine. But once you get into couture and high fashion, that’s where it gets really ridiculous. Particularly when brands collaborate with bands to make extremely expensive versions of merch you could generally find at a Hot Topic. However, no one’s complaining when Supreme collaborates with Slayer or Black Sabbath, they’re just buying the limited edition stuff before it sells out. Even the gross Metallica line with them sold out. Now French fashion line Vetements is getting in on the fun by collaborating with Rammstein on a hoodie modeled around the Sehnsucht album cover. There’s nothing wrong with a Rammstein hoodie. There is, however, something a little (ok, a lot) on the ridiculous side upon hearing that said hoodie costs $690 (and is already sold out).
Youtuber Whang! passed this info on to us, where he breaks down how ridiculous it is that a hoodie should cost that much money. Given that it’s the 20th anniversary of the album, some limited edition merch isn’t a terrible idea. But when it costs a good $600 more than it probably should, that raises a few eyebrows. Denver Street Market, where Whang saw the shirt on sale, doesn’t have it listed any more either, so given that the initial posts about it were from July, it’s safe to say the hoodie is long since gone. Here’s a description of the shirt from Matchesfashion, where it went on sale four days ago (and already sold out):
German metal band Rammstein counts creative director Demna Gvasalia as one of its long-time fans, so it comes as no surprise to see the artwork of their 1997 album ‘Sehnsucht’ across Vetements’s AW17 offering. This black cotton Trash Metal T-shirt is cut to an oversized silhouette – typical of band merchandise – and is shaped with dropped shoulders for a relaxed feel.
For some reason, the shirt, at $740, is more expensive than the hoodie. However, if you want to find out when the next batch will drop, follow the brand on their Instagram.
