The CMJ 2012 Music Marathon is nearly upon us, and as with every year, there are many awesome things happening all around New York City. As such, we realize that it’s going to be a little difficult to keep track of all the metal-related events going on, especially if planning is paired with borderline-irresponsible amounts of alcohol. So, since we here at Metal Insider care so much about you all, we decided to throw together a comprehensive list of events happening throughout CMJ Week that are worthy of your attention. Let us proudly present The Insider’s Guide:

Monday October 15th

The Syndicate’s Conflict of Interest (hosted by Andrew W.K.)
Rebel NYC (251 West 30th Street)
New York, NY
7:00pm
Free with RSVP, 18+

There are two good reasons to attend our parent company’s annual unofficial CMJ kickoff party: you join  some of Taco Bell’s Feed the Beat artists in supporting a benefit for World Hunger Relief, and a certain hard-partier named Andrew W.K. is hosting.  There’s still some time to RSVP!

Tuesday October 16th

Metal Insider Presents A Night of Comedy
The Stand (239 3rd Avenue bet. E. 20th and E. 19th)
New York, NY
8:00pm
$10, 18+, CMJ badges accepted

As the name would suggest, this will feature a bunch of comedians coming to make you laugh your denim and leather off. The line-up includes Don Jamieson and Jim Florentine of That Metal Show, Jesse Joyce, Nikki Glaser, Luis J. Gomez and Dave Smith.

GWAR (w/ DevilDriver, Cancer Bats, Legacy of Disorder)
Music Hall of Williamsburg
66 North 6th St.
Brooklyn, NY 11211
6:30 PM
$29.50/$30, 18+, unofficial showcase

It’s GWAR. Need we say more? Actually, yes. Brent Purgason makes his debut on an NYC stage as new member Pustulus Maximus.

Conquerors of the World Tour (w/ Septicflesh, Krisiun, Melechesh, Ex Deo, Inquisition)
Gramercy Theatre
New York, NY
7:00pm
$22, 16+, CMJ badges accepted

If laughing and being metal simultaneously isn’t your thing (or you’re looking for somewhere to show up after our comedy show is over), we can’t leave out a mention of this tour featuring death metal acts from all around the world.  Expect this one to go late!

Wednesday, October 17th

The AP Tour (w/ Miss May I, The Ghost Inside, Like Moths to Flames, The Amity Affliction, Glass Cloud)
Irving Plaza
New York, NY
6pm
$18, all ages, CMJ badges accepted

The AP Tour is coming through town boasting a robust line-up. It’s prime time to see why The Amity Affliction had the #1 album in Australia last month, and Miss May I just keeps building momentum with the Warped Tour crowd.
Thursday October 18th

Metal Sucks, Metal Injection, and 1000 Knives 3rd Annual CMJ Showcase (w/ Pig Destroyer, KEN Mode, Early Graves, Encrust)
Public Assembly (Brooklyn)
8:30pm
$15/$17 day-of, 18+, CMJ badges accepted

Our friends over at Metal Sucks, Metal Injection and 1000 Knives have a good time lined up this year. In addition, the first 100 people to show up get a free beer. Save your complaining for another showcase!

Geoff Tate
E. 23rd St. & FDR Dr.
Rocks Off! Concert Cruise Aboard The Jewel
Boards: 7pm / Departs: 8pm
$30, 21+, non-CMJ

This might go a long way toward answering our questions about which Queensryche we’d want to see at this point.

Skateboard Marketing Ltd., ReverbNation & Horns Up Rocks CMJ Showcase (w/Killcode, Freya, Slam One Down)
The Studio at Webster Hall
7:00pm
$15, 16+, CMJ badges accepted

There’s a private party beforehand, but after that, this is open to the public.
Friday October 19th

Metal Insider’s 2012 CMJ Showcase (w/ Prong, Eminence, For Sleeping or Jumping)
Pier 40, West Houston St. at West Side Highway
Rocks Off ! Concert Cruise Aboard The Star of Palm Beach
Boards: 7pm / Departs: 7:30pm
$25 advance/$30 day-of, 21+, CMJ badges accepted

#PRONGBOAT. (Ahem) Yes, our live showcase this year is pretty absurd. For Sleeping Or Jumping, Eminence, and the one and only Prong, who are playing their first show in NYC in five years.
Saturday October 20th

Brooklyn Vegan/Black Bubblegum Official CMJ Showcase (w/ Yakuza, Royal Thunder, Fight Amp, Enabler, Helen Money, Sannhet)
Saint Vitus Bar
1120 Manhattan Ave [Brooklyn]
7:30pm
$5, 21+, CMJ badges accepted

Not only is this the only showcase for Metal Insider favorites Yakuza and Royal Thunder, but there’s also free Pabst Blue Ribbon and Sailor Jerry’s Rum.  Everyone wins!

Pitchfork’s Show No Mercy Showcase (w/ Car Bomb, Batillus, Pyrrhon, Primitive Weapons, Theologian and TBA special guest)
285 Kent Ave, Brooklyn
8pm
$10, all ages, non-CMJ

Car Bomb lit up the Studio at Webster Hall when they opened for Gojira there this summer, and Primitive Weapons kills it live.  And just who might that special guest be?

Sunday October 21st (The day after)

The Darkness
Terminal 5
New York, NY
7:30pm
$30/$35 day-of, all ages, non-CMJ

First, let us note that this is not a CMJ event. You also might be dead on your feet by this point.  But if you’re still craving live shows and trying to fully remove all hope of getting up for work Monday, then by all means, get some Hot Cakes while you can.
