Well, this has been a pretty strange and shocking year, and here’s a story to make it even stranger and more shocking. Cannibal Corpse guitarist Pat O’Brien is being held without bond after being charged with burglary and charging at officers with a knife. This happened while firefighters were battling a blaze at his home that took a while to contain because ammunition kept exploding.
This took place in Northdale, FL, according to NBC affiliate WFLA. The story starts with a burning house where O’Brien, who’s been the lead guitarist of Cannibal Corpse since 1997, lives. Around the same time, the Sheriff’s office got a call that a burglary was in process. Apparently, O’Brien went inside the house and refused to leave, pushing a woman, then fleeing into the backyard. When authorities found him near his home, he charged at them with a knife. He was taken down by authorities and charged with burglary of an occupied dwelling with assault and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.
This is hard to believe, especially given that Cannibal Corpse have been touring a ton and announced that they’d be playing on the third leg of Slayer’s final tour just yesterday. They were also set to coheadline Decibel’s tour starting in February. There’s been no update from Cannibal Corpse’s camp yet, and this is a developing story so stay tuned.
