Metal Inside(r) Home Quarantine is Metal Insider’s pandemic column during the ongoing uncertainty behind COVID-19. We ask artists five questions on what’s been keeping them busy during these unprecedented times. We caught up with Yawn guitar/electronics Mike McCormick as he’s been spending this time working on their new album.

What have you been doing to pass time during Quarantine?

In the last two years we’ve managed to stay active by recording and producing our upcoming release! We’ve also been lucky to play a few concerts in Norway when the quarantine rules relaxed a bit and lately have been planning our release tour, which has kept us very busy!

Have you been listening to any music or have any playlists worth checking out?

I think all of us have been comforting ourselves during corona by revisiting our favourite music – Meshuggah, Car Bomb, Tool, Gojira, Vildhjarta. YAWN has a playlist curated by each member of the band on our Spotify page – they are definitely worth checking out if you want to know our favourites!

A lot of people have been spending this time cooking, including making their own bread. What food have you been prepping during this time?

No bread, but Oskar made a vegan meatloaf for Christmas dinner 2021 that was outrageously good!

In terms of entertainment, what movies, TV shows, books, or games have been keeping you busy?

It’s not a movie or TV series, but I discovered Calder Hannan’s great YouTube channel “Metal Music Theory” in the last year, and his analyses of obscure metal tracks has scratched my nerd-itch and also led me to discover tons of great bands!

What advice do you have for your fans in isolation during this time?

As soon as the world opens again we’re gonna hit the road as hard as we can – so we’ll see you soon! Until then, hang in there and get/stay in touch with us via social media – we love connecting with people and want to know where you are so we can come and play for you!
