Metal Inside(r) Home Quarantine is Metal Insider’s new column during this time of isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We asked artists five questions on what’s been keeping them busy ranging from their favorite movies, food they’ve been eating, music they’ve been listening to and more. We caught up with Upon Wings’ Anne Autumn Erickson as she’s been spending this time being productive and being the only person who hasn’t watched ‘Tiger King’ (yet).

What have you been doing to pass time during Quarantine?

I’ve been working and helping my parents get their groceries online, ha. I’ve also been writing more music, which has been great to stay occupied, and connecting with people on Zoom and all those video platforms. I kept hearing “Amazing Grace” played as a song of hope amid the coronavirus pandemic, and it inspired me to record a version with Upon Wings, so we just released that, plus a music video with music by Corey Lowery of Seether. I have a podcast, too, called Audio Ink, which I’ve been posting on during quarantine.

Have you been listening to any music or have any playlists worth checking out?

Yes! I’m enjoying the new Trivium album, “What the Dead Men Say.” It was great to have new music from them right when things were shutting down. Other bands I’ve been listening to while staying in are Hatebreed, Metallica (love their Metallica Mondays), Mastodon, the new Testament album, Tool, Skillet, Five Finger Death Punch, A Perfect Circle and many more.

A lot of people have been spending this time cooking including making their own bread, what food have you been prepping during this time?

I’m pescatarian and am always looking for good sources of protein. I have a huge sweet tooth, though, and need my treats! I made a cake on quarantine, and it was the best thing ever.

In terms of entertainment, what movies, TV shows, books, or games have been keeping you busy?

Well, I’m probably the only person who has not watched “Tiger King.” I enjoy watching documentaries about music, history– all kinds of things. I also get stuck on Hallmark movies. Don’t judge!

What advice do you have for your fans in isolation during this time?

Try to find ways to stay in a positive place. Find things to do at home that give you joy, and make them a part of your daily life. Even something as small as reading a book you’ve had sitting around for months can feel like a victory. And, of course, stay safe.
