Metal Inside(r) Home Quarantine is Metal Insider’s new column during this time of isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We asked artists five questions on what’s been keeping them busy ranging from their favorite movies, food they’ve been eating, music they’ve been listening to and more. We caught up with Goatwhore’s Zack Simmons as he’s been spending this time staying as productive as possible.

What have you been doing to pass time during Quarantine?

I’ve been trying to stay as productive as possible. I set a goal to bike at least 70 miles a week as well as ramping up the home workouts since the gyms are shut down. Jamming, practicing, working on my parts for the new Goatwhore stuff as well. Just doing my best to keep moving really. It’s definitely a weird time and situation but it’s not really unlike how I spend my time on a normal break from touring.

Have you been listening to any music or have any playlists worth checking out?

I dig the podcasts when I’m driving or when on the road but there hasn’t been much of that lately. Jamey Jasta’s podcast is a good one and he has a nice variation of different guests. I like some of the true crime casts as well. As for music, I’ve been digging back into my early metal favorites to get that subconscious influence going while working on new music for the band. Always fun to discover something new though. Recently, I was turned onto Motorpsycho from Norway and it’s just got a great kind of jammy, space-out vibe to it. Very well done and tasteful.

A lot of people have been spending this time cooking including making their own bread, what food have you been prepping during this time?

Nothing too adventurous. I like to make super, melt-your-face salsa, pepper relish, guacamole, etc. Good stuff that’s healthy to have around. Sometimes I have to calm the heat down depending on who else is around but that’s all fine.

In terms of entertainment, what movies, TV shows, books, or games have been keeping you busy?

Lately and especially now I haven’t really been into TV so much. It’s hard for me to sit still long enough in one spot. Sat through a few of the Netflix things people were talking about but I’ve been more into trying to be active and getting shit done.

What advice do you have for your fans in isolation during this time?

Hang in there! It’s a trying time for everyone and each person has their own set of circumstances and challenges. Try to see the positive in the situation and use the extra time to your benefit. Keep the mental health strong and create some good habits you can continue once things resume.
