Metal Inside(r) Home Quarantine is Metal Insider’s new column during this time of isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We asked artists five questions on what’s been keeping them busy ranging from their favorite movies, food they’ve been eating, music they’ve been listening to and more. We caught up with Terminal Nation drummer Chase Davis as he’s been spending this time working on home repairs.
What have you been doing to pass time during Quarantine?
I’ve done a lot of reading and watching a lot of TV shows and movies. The main thing that has taken up my time during quarantine is home renovation/projects. I had a lot of window sills that were rotting on the outside of my house so I decided to fix those myself which saved a ton of money, fixed our fence where a tree fell on it, and a lot of other minor renovations inside the house.
Have you been listening to any music or have any playlists worth checking out?
In the past month or so I’ve really just been listening to the new Vile Creature album – Glory, Glory! Apathy Took Helm!, Choir Boy – Gathering Swans, and True Body – Heavenly Rhythms for the Uninitiated. Other releases from this year that I have really enjoyed are the new Mindforce – Swingin Swords, Choppin Lords, HAIM – Women In Music Pt. III, Waxahatchee – Saint Cloud, Orthodox – Let It Take Its Course, Code Orange – Underneath, and Nudie Mag – Our Milk.
A lot of people have been spending this time cooking including making their own bread, what food have you been prepping during this time?
One thing that I really wanted to try to make for so long were macarons. I gave it a shot at the beginning of quarantine and they turned out 100x better than I thought they would. I made strawberry cheesecake, vanilla with champagne buttercream, vanilla with regular buttercream, and then tried to make some vegan ones. The cookie on the vegan ones didn’t turn out the best but people said they liked them so i’ll take it. Also as of recently I have been making my own pasta which has been a lot of fun and turned out great.
In terms of entertainment, what movies, TV shows, books, or games have been keeping you busy?
I’m not the biggest gamer so I have just been playing FIFA 18 on Xbox and Super Mario Odyssey for Switch. For TV shows I recently watched all of Hannibal, I finished the series Dark, season 3 of Westworld, Devs, Dispatchers from Elsewhere, and now I am currently rewatching Lost for the 6th or 7th time. When it comes to movies I rewatched some favorites like: Bone Tomahawk, Annihilation, The Lighthouse, Mandy, and Alien. I’ve also watched these for the first time: It Comes At Night, Cats (1998), Pride and Prejudice, Good Time, The Favorite, Snowpiercer, Logan Lucky, Shazam, and Toy Story 4. I read Red Dragon by Thomas Harris, Suttree by Cormac McCarthy, The Book of Dust (the prequel to His Dark Materials series) by Philip Pullman, The Gone Dead by Chanelle Benz, The Darwin Affair by Timothy Mason, a really good YA murder mystery series called Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson, and a few others.
What advice do you have for your fans in isolation during this time?
My advice to people during this crazy time is if you have some time to relax or off work, do things that you enjoy to try to take your mind off of everything that is going on for just a little bit. Whether that is listening to music, playing music, trying to cook something new, playing video games, reading, watching tv/movies, etc. I know it is a little hard to do that with everything going on in the world and the country but doing things to take my mind away from all of that for just a little while has really helped me.
