Metal Inside(r) Home Quarantine is Metal Insider’s new column during this time of isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We asked artists five questions on what’s been keeping them busy ranging from their favorite movies, food they’ve been eating, music they’ve been listening to and more. We caught up with Kaonashi’s Peter Rono and Ryan Paolilli as they’ve been spending this time working on new music.

What have you been doing to pass time during Quarantine?

Peter: Working from home, spending time with my family and collaborating with new artists for Kaonashi concepts. I even made an Instagram page for my merch collection.

Pao: Mostly practicing, recording, trimming, and teaching!

Have you been listening to any music or have any playlists worth checking out?

Peter: Tim Kasher from the band Cursive has solo stuff that’s amazing, Soft Kill, Bodysnatcher, a lot of SoundCloud rap and this new band from New Jersey called DREG.

Pao: I’ve been taking this time to listen to random flash in the pan things that were in my past, there used to be this band called The Graduate who had a great album called Only Every Time.

A lot of people have been spending this time cooking including making their own bread, what food have you been prepping during this time?

Peter: Breakfast food is my favorite so I’ve been making that a lot. Sausage gravy, cheese eggs, fried potatoes. I love it all!

Pao: There’s been a lot of stir-fry like things at my place, rice and noodles have been a staple. The other day I learned a good way to cook ribs in the oven.

In terms of entertainment, what movies, TV shows, books, or games have been keeping you busy?

Peter: I’ve been watching the Sopranos and it’s honestly one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. Also, I’ve been playing Super Smash Bros Ultimate.

Pao: Trying to scour the streaming services for good anime, but other than that a lot of A24 movies like Hereditary, Killing Of A Sacred Deer, and etc (s/o luke eddings). For games, I’ve just been ripping Apex like a fiend.

What advice do you have for your fans in isolation during this time?

Peter: Use this time to do things you’ve been procrastinating about. I’m sure there’s something you’ve wanted to do but never had the time to, now you have the time.

Pao: Stay safe, stay home, wash your hands, help each other out and be kind in this crazy time. Learn to dance or play guitar or read 500 books. I don’t care what it is, as long as it’s positive. Do everything you’ve wanted to do, because now more than ever we do not know what tomorrow’s gonna bring.
